View Full Version : OPPS Spoke Too Soon..... EW2 PROBLEMS.........

Well, after running 16 hours EW2 has given up. It appears that although it
shows the service running, it will not accept incoming connections. Even
after a reboot, it will stop accepting connections after 4 or 5 messages. A
reinstall had no effect. I removed EW2 and reinstalled EW1 and all is back
to normal. I hate to say this, but this problem is almost identical to the
Argo mail server issue I had 2 months ago. Same thing with the mail server,
it showed everything was running but it would not accept connections.(only
way to fix was a downgrade to a stable version) The only difference was an
error in the event viewer with the Agro problem, nothing for this one.
Before anyone chimes in, I am running a brand new server installed in the
last two weeks so it's not hardware related. Alex, if you need any info on
this just let me know.

Hi Alex,
Logs are gone.... Didn't show anything so I removed them when I
uninstalled. Log would show disconnection of last good connection then
nothing. It sat for two hours before I noticed no incoming messages and when
I tried to send a test from a Verizon webmail account I found that nothing
happened. The message came back to the Verizon account "no response from
server will retry later". When I stopped and restarted the service from the
console, then resent the message, it worked. I then sent it several messages
from an AOL account. After the 5th message disconnection line, the server
stopped responding to any more incoming requests. I hit the restart button
and tried it, not responding. I had to stop and start to get it going again.
After watching 4 normal messages come in, again I noticed the telltale lack
of logging. A reboot was then inorder, but after it came back up 5 messages
later it stopped again. Since I am expecting several improtant messages this
afternoon I had to remove it and reload EW1. Sorry I didn't save the logs
but I didn't see any problem in them.

Sad you uninstalled it. I'd like to ask you install it and repeat these AOL
tests, and if it will stop again it will give me all necessary info for
immediate fix.

Later tonight I will reinstall...

Hey Alex....
looks like same thing here - i installed ewall 2 on nt 4 with argo
ran for a while, rejected 4 connections based on spamcop.net, and then
stopped - ran for just under 3 minutes.
said it was running, but nothing would connect.
i am sending logfile seperately, but i dont think you will see anything in
there, certainly i dont.

Do you have all SPs and updates installed on NT? Could you also give me
access to that PC?

reinstall last night, family issue. I will try tonight.
