New AVScan API for MailFilter and eWall available

Postby Alexander Telegin » Sat Dec 29, 2007 3:26 am

Dear eWall and MailFilter Users,

If you use AVG v7.5 antivirus from Grisoft, you can install attached version of AVScan, that provides advanced functionality. To install stop eWall or ArGo service, close eWall Control Panel, extract attached archive into "AV" subdirectory, select "AVG Anti-Virus System COM v7.5" from antivirus list in Options.

Regards,
Alex

Alex,

I tried the updated files. No luck, as a matter of fact I had to restore the original DLL files. The event log has this message:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: SideBySide
Event Category: None
Event ID: 59
Date: 1/1/2008
Time: 9:31:34 AM
User: N/A
Computer: COLUMBIA
Description:
Generate Activation Context failed for C:\Program Files\Server Side Solutions\eWall 3.0\AV\AvgApi.dll. Reference error message: The referenced assembly is not installed on your system.
.

Note: the DLL file is located in the AV Directory. Suggestions?

Hm... perhaps the AVG API requires .NET framework. Is it installed? by the way, what is your OS and AVG product?

Alex,
Yes .NET 2.0 is installed. The OS is
Windows 2003 Server and AGo .NET and AVG AvntiVirus Network Edition 7.5.516. Restoring the original AVSCAN.DLL stopped the error.

What does "provides advanced functionality" mean?

Kind of better integration with fresh API from Grisoft. For example, it returns full database version. The scanning speed is the same, at least, I didn't feel the difference.

Thanks Alex. I'm guessing this will be incorporated into an upcoming release after some testing???
