How do spammers distribute their lists?

Postby dave » Wed Sep 19, 2007 2:52 am

I'm often amazed at the persistence of spammers, particularly against email accounts that have been closed for over 5 years, yet they're still trying to hit it.

How do they share it between themselves? What is their distribution scheme? How do they avoid someone contributing to this "master list" with garbage (just to screw with them)?

Does anyone know (factually)?

who really knows, not sure if there is a 'master list', probably networked in some cases.

Most common places they would get I think would be Usernet newsgroups, Websites, public domain listings at registar, getting on those friendly large email lists, dictionary attacks on mailserver and sure many more.
hMailServer 5.3.3: External MySql
Win2k3 Server | eWall 4.0 Anti-Spam Anti-Virus SMTP Proxy
SpamAssassin 3.31 - ClamAV on backend Ubuntu Server (VMware)
